Another one is direct constant current power supply with LED in series or in parallel. It has the advantage of low cost, but suffers bad flexibility, and also has to solve the problem that failure of a LED can not affect other running LED. Both of these two forms coexist in some time.

5. Surge protection: LED surge capacity is relatively poor, especially anti-reverse voltage capability. Enhancing this protection is also important. Some LED lights are installed outdoor, such as LED street lights. Due to the using of power grid load and lightning induction, there will be various surge invade from the grid system, and some surge will cause damage to LED. Thus, LED driver should be able to curb the surge intrusion and protect the LED from being damaged.
